I wrote this post in Spanish in 2022 and adapted it to English in 2026.

A few days ago I ran into this problem when trying to upgrade my Ubuntu 20.04 install:

text
➜ sudo apt upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 dpkg : Breaks: libapt-pkg5.0 (< 1.7~b) but 1.6.14 is to be installed
E: Broken packages

If you get this problem when trying to upgrade or install any package on Ubuntu, and you've already tried all of these fixes:

bash
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt -f install
sudo apt autoremove
sudo apt autoclean
sudo apt update --fix-missing
sudo apt-get --fix-broken install

If nothing above worked, you just need to run this command:

bash
sudo apt remove ubuntu-advantage-tools

And it's all fixed!
